New Delhi, June, 12: UPSC has successfully conducted the brand new patterned CSAT-2011 across the nation to eliminate the candidate for the Civil services in India. The examination structure was changed this year with respect of previous year by removing optional paper and introducing the innovative aptitude test in the first eliminator round named CSAT. Each paper was of 200 marks and the time duration was 120 minutes for each.

Paper I: General Studies

Paper I was followed more or less previous trend if UPSC PT by asking 100 questions from General Science, History of India including the Indian national movement current events of national and international importance, Indian and world geography, and Indian polity and governance. The paper was objective type with multiple choice questions. Many questions were asked from the newer areas like economic and social development and general issues on, biodiversity, environmental ecology and ecological changes.

Paper II: Aptitude:

This paper was the new development. The changed paper wise of completely different test for civil services aspirants there was 80 questions were asked from General Mental Ability, Comprehension (General and English), Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Basic Numeracy, Decision-making and Problem-solving, Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability. Some questions from this paper was as English comprehension which was required to be answered in English only and Hindi translation was not given for the same. The paper was also having objective type-multiple choice questions.

Student Reaction

Students shown the mixed reaction after appearing in the examination the prime worry some factors were hovering in their mind regarding the cut off. Praveen Kumar Jha an applicant of CSAT-2011, who belongs to History background, told  that the first paper was on predicted line but Paper II was bit complex because the aptitude section was tough to handle in stipulated time given by the UPSC. Raman Sinha and Ashutosh singh who belongs to engineering background said that the Paper II was good for them but they had faced some difficulty to tackle the Paper I.

It seems from the students Reactions that the science background people were comfortable with the Paper II the aptitude section and Humanity students were comfortable with the Paper I the general studies section. The result of CSAT-2011 will be announced after combining the marks of Paper I and paper II so UPSC had tried their best to balance the sections no not give additional advantage to some section of students. The result of the CSAT-2011 is expected to announce by the first week of August.

I think the cut off will be somewhere around 190 out of 400: and max students reaching this score by gaining more marks in CSAT THERE WILL BE THREE CATAGOURIES OF STUDENTS:
1. who have done really well in PaperI, and paper II obviously easy for them , scoring very high
2. Done good in CSAT(130+) AND AVERAGE IN Paper-II(30-40 QUESTIONS right)
3. Above Average in GS(50-60 QUESTIONS RIGHT)and average in CSAT(110 marks0

a safe zone is being predicted 150+ candidates above 135 shld atleast start preparation for mains.
