Registration Department came into existence vide Government of Bihar Resolution No. 1724 dated 28-August-1991. Prior to it, it was a part of Revenue Department. The department is headed by a Minister at political level while at the bureaucratic level, Departmental Secretary is at its head.

Organizational structure of the Registration Department:
Minister In Charge-Secretary (IAS)-Inspector General---Joint Secretary---Deputy Inspector General---Assistant Inspector General---Inspector of Registration Offices---District Registrar-District Sub Registrar---Sub Registrar(Entry Level by BPSC).

Each civil district has been declared registration district within the meaning of Section 5 of the Registration Act. At present there are 38 registration districts.

Rdo aur bdo ka same service hai. Rdo 3 years ke baad bdo ban jata hai.
Pay scales of all the posts in bpsc are 9300-34500 but there grade pays are different. If someone has exact knowledge about Grade Pays of different posts like RDO, Excise Inspector etc. please share.
