Till now four vaults recently opened at the Sree Padmanabhan temple in Trivandrum, which was unofficially estimated about $22 billion few more vaults will be opened on July 8 .

The thousands of statues of gods and goddesses made of solid gold and studded with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and other precious stones, crowns and necklaces, all given as gifts to the god over the centuries.

The quantity of gold and silver coins was so much that the officials involved in counting weighed the coins by the sackful, rather than counting them.

Sree Padmanabhan temple, were built by the maharajas who ruled the then-kingdom of Travancore, remained under the control of the erstwhile royal family of the region after India's independence in 1947.

India's Apex Court ordered the careful inspection of the vaults after a lawyer petitioned a local court asking the Kerla Government to take over the Sree Padmanabhan temple, citing inadequate security. The current Maharaja of Travancore had appealed to the apex Court against the petition.

The inventory opened last week and the final vaults were expected to be unlocked soon. The public are aware about the treasures in temple but the quantum mesmerized everybody.

Before the trove was opened, there was almost no security at the temple, except few local guards patrolling the complex with batons, mainly for the crowd control objective.

Kerala's police have sent extra police officers to the temple and is planning a high-tech security system to protect the treasure soon.

"We plan to enhance security in a manner which will not interfere with the activities of the temple or devotees," Kerala's police chief, Jacob Punnoose said to the media.

Manoj Abraham, police commissioner Trivandrum, said two battalions of special armed police would provide security outside the temple complex.
"Later, we will discuss with temple authorities and members of the former royal family what kind of permanent security system should be put in place," Abraham said.

Every year, devout Hindus donate cash, gold and silver to temples whose value is in millions. Some of the temples in India are so wealthy; they have formed trusts which run schools, colleges and hospitals that offer free treatment to the poor people.

The new discovery Sree Padmanabhan temple has sparked a debate over the future of the treasure trove.

Vellappally Nateshan, a Hindu leader, requested the wealth should remain with the temple authorities.

Some social activists in Kerala have demanded the treasure be handed to a national trust to help the poor people of the country.

Kerala's Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, however, assured the people that the wealth would remain with the temple."It is the property of the temple. The government will protect the wealth at the temple."

Chandy said the government would bear the cost of stepping up security at the temple and ensure that worshippers were not inconvenienced.

Corruption Envelopes JPSC Aspitants Urges CBI Probe

Ranchi, July, 7: Students-turned-activists are desperately launched the move to clean the sullied image of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). The State’s civil services aspirants, under the banner of the Chhatra Jagran Manch, have adopted multiple modern technological means to get the “sufferers” bring together under single roof.

Aspirants, struggling hard to revamp work culture of the JPSC, are messaging their peer examinees to raise their voices in favor of a probe by premier investigating agency of the country CBI besides demanding a recruitment process minus corruption, nepotism or favoritism of any kind.

“Join us against JPSC corruption by ensuring your participation in mashal julush on Tuesday at 5 pm... ‘Now or Never’,” reads the SMS that has been circulated among the civil service aspirants across the State. Following the call, a number of students participated in a deliberation, walked in the torch rally upto Raj Bhavan and sat in protest before the JPSC office.

Aspirants are calming that nothing is going to happen by state vigilance probes because it is under the state government ambit and the relatives of the ruling alliance are benifited by the JPSC. The organization held a meeting on June 29. The mashal julush was on July 2 , and  on July 7 they staged a protest before the JPSC office.

The union has been particularly baffling against recent High Court’s order quashing suspension of a candidate, Mukesh Mahto. “We think that the Government did not present its views correctly in the High Court. There is some connivance between those in the Government and the probe agency. The nexus could not be broken unless an independent CBI inquiry is ordered. We afraid that with present style of functioning anyone would found guilt ever,” said Ajay Chaudhary, coordinator of the forum to the media.

A delegation of the aspirants also submitted a memorandum to the newly appointed chairman of JPSC Shiv Basant seeking his interventions.Basant, while responding to the “genuine” demands of the students, has assured that now onwards all the examinations conducted by the commission would be free and fair in nature. He also assured the delegation that he would place demand for CBI probe before that Government that in turn can take final call into the matter.

“He said that he cannot do anything about the happenings of the past but assured that no malpractice would be tolerated in the future and cent per cent transparency in the examination process would be maintained. He also hinted that agencies hired by the UPSC for conducting examination processes may be employed here as well,” the chairman reportedly complained about lack of working hands in the JPSC .

The results of the fourth combined preliminary examination is pending even after more than three months of the exam. Issue of repetition of multiple questions in couple of subjects is still under consideration with JPSC.
